Guitar Tips
Feb 6th, 2008 by guitarnews
Guitar Tips is an online guitar educational website run by Chris Elmore. Chris learned to play his guitar in exactly one month using the same tips and techniques contained in his course. He played on stage, won best guitarist competitions, has been in recording studios and played beside major artists on tour.
About The Program
Guitar Tips is a comprehensive educational guitar program that works well for beginners starting out with their guitar playing as well as improving the skills of more advanced players. The course is thorough, logically laid out and heaps of fun, particularly when the lessons focus on playing famous songs from artists such as Steve Vai, Lynard Skynard, Santana, and many more.
The one time fee for a lifetime membership to the Guitar Tips online guitar lessons program opens the door to over 70 different lessons, effectively utilising video, audio, photos and written text to teach each lesson.
The total lessons package consists of four main parts:
1. Guitar Tips; the complete A to Z guitar playing fundamentals course
2. Guitar Leads; a sampling of a larger course that can be purchased separately
2. Backing Tracks for playing along with a recorded band ( a sampling of the larger course)
4. Guitar Songs: learn to play famous songs ( a sampling of the larger course ).
How The Lessons Work
Guitar Tips employs a very direct style of teaching. Divided into seven sections, the lesson plan is clear and works well to build on each previous topic. This means that players of any level can start at the point they feel the most comfortable, working through each section at their own pace. In order to maximise learning, it is recommended that students work through the stages in the order that is presented.
Each lesson plan provides charts, text, and sound to help students get a clear grasp of the concepts being taught. Diagrams are clear and easy to understand, while the text works well to complement the lesson and help reduce confusion. The sound bites are of reasonable quality, but really help in reinforcing each lesson.
The once-only fee includes a lifetime membership, so students benefit from being able to return to the GuitarTips website at anytime to practice and progress. In addition, Guitar Tips is continually updating the site, and adds instruction of new popular songs to an ever-growing list.
What We Liked
At the time of writing, the lifetime membership price, for the Guitar Tips online lessons program is only $27. That’s about what it would cost for 30 minutes with a live hands-on guitar teacher where you might only learn how to hold and tune the guitar. Guitar Tips offers 70 lessons that you can learn from at your own convenience in your own home. Purchasing at this reasonable price should be an easy decision.
There is also a very convenient option of completely downloading the entire website to your own local hard drive. This means you can burn it to a DVD and watch the lessons on your TV’s larger screen.
The Down Side
Although Chris Elmore’s voice is clear and distinct, his communication on the video lessons is not always perfectly clear and logical. The videos are a bit dark and small in size, making the detail of right and left hands in the demonstrations difficult to see. The viewing experience could also be improved by including some close-ups.
